nikon-d700-and-sb900-speedlight.jpgFinally Nikon have announced the long awaited and much rumoured D700, a D-SLR with the same FX-format CMOS sensor first introduced with the Nikon D3.

While smaller and less expensive, the new D700 incorporates features comparable to the D3 and actually adds functions such as a pop up flash which also acts as a commander unit for its CL: off camera flash system and a vibration sensor cleaning facility.

At the same time, it derives a wide range of benefits from the D300. The D700 features a 12.1-megapixel FX-format CMOS sensor with a sensing area of 36.0 x 23.9 mm; a sensitivity range of ISO 200 to 6400, continuous shooting at up to 5 frames
per second and up to 8 fps with the optional Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10.

It retains Nikon’s 51-point AF system and Scene Recognition System for optimum auto focus, auto exposure and auto white balance detection. The D700 also features Live View, DX Cropping mode, HDMI output, an optional Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10 and much more.

To complement the D700, Nikon have also announced the Speedlight SB900. The SB-900 is a high-performance Speedlight developed as the successor to the Nikon SB-800.. It provides a wide 17-200 mm auto zoom range, three illumination patterns, a newly designed, streamlined operation with a full-information LCD panel, and AF-Assist illumination compatible with new generation AF sensors.

The SB-900 has an improved booster circuit for high-speed recycle time and firmware can be uploaded via a Nikon digital SLR camera—a world’s first* for flash units,
assuring that the SB-900 can accept technological advancements.

Additional new functions include 180 degrees of left or right head swivel, a special built-in overheat protection system and automatic filter detection for white balance correction, even in fluorescent lighting conditions.
