In a move that demonstrates that photo retail is still very much evolving, Eastmon Digital has announced that it is planning to close its six remaining stores by February 2011,

Apparently there had been some parties interested in buying the stores, but these approaches have been rejected.

Anyone who’s ever had anything to do with retail, will know how much retailers despise manufacturers or distributors who sell direct to the public. Manufacturers and distributors can obviously command bigger margins, and can offer lower prices, so they have an unfair advantage when competing against retailers.  Plus it’s also like a partner becoming a competitor (not really good sport).So it’s with great interest that we’ve been monitoring rumours that Canon is about to sell direct to consumers in Australia.
